McDonald’s World Children’s Day Love Ambassador Show Luo Invites Ten of Thousands to Hug, Breaking Guinness World Record

Since 2004, McDonald’s (Taiwan) has been holding annual “McDonald’s World Children’s Day Charity Concerts” in November. They’ve received support from artists like Jolin Tsai Yi Lin and Alexander Lee Hom Wang. This year was the 4th annual charity concert and they had chosen Show Luo to be the “McDonald’s World Children’s Day” Love Ambassador, with this year’s theme as “Hand In Hand, Embrace a Home.” (Note: The actual Chinese characters were changed to allude to hospital and charity, so it would actually say something in the likes of, “embrace a hospital.”) Love Ambassador Show Luo would be take lead in “Love’s Embrace,” and invited his thousands of fans to challenge break the Guinness World Record for “the most couples hugging simultaneously.” This gesture was to inform society to spread love and care to the sick children in hospitals.

As a gesture to care for children in hospitals far away and to give them a “home away from home,” the 2007 McDonald’s World Children’s Day Love Ambassador Show Luo especially invited all his concert attendees on the 17th and 18th of November (Saturday and Sunday) to hug each other to break the Guinness World Record for the most couples hugging simultaneously. Taiwan McDonald’s employees were also invited by Ronald McDonald to participate. On stage during the concert, Love Ambassador Show Luo and Ronald McDonald led 6 employees with 6 children in singing “Li Liang [Strength],” using actions to care for sick children.

In 2006, McDonald’s World Children’s Day Charity began an online event “One Brick, One Dollar” which had over 1 million hits. So this year, McDonald’s once again opened another online World Children’s Day Charity event using “Hugging to Share Love” as the slogan, to have everyone once again spread their care and love. For every “love’s embrace,” Taiwan McDonald’s will donate a dollar to Ronald McDonald’s House Charity. They had a goal of $200,000, to help more children in need. The event ended at 5:00 P.M. on 11/16 and page hit count was over 480,000 with over 48,000 who partcipatd.
